Marine Survey and Sea Trial

A Marine survey is the most important step in the purchase process of a vessel. All aspects of the boat's systems are evaluated to determine the value of the vessel for both you and your insurance company and underwriter.

Marine surveying is a trade which requires both professional training and experience.  You have made a significant investment in your vessel, make sure you get a qualified surveyor. There are many additional investigations which may be performed such as engine surveys, oil analysis, ultrasonic testing, moisture testing etc

We use a professional marine surveyer with 10 years of experience and accredited through the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors ( SAMS ). You will be provided with a written report testifying to the condition of your prospective vessel.

The typical cost of a hull survey can range from $8 - $12/foot depending on the type of vessel, or we can give you a fixed price quote.

A Sea Trial is an integral part of the purchasing process, an opportunity for the purchaser to find out about the vessel.

All systems of the vessel are performance tested. This not only involves the engines, but all major systems of the vessel such as electronics, hydraulics, engine, steering and structural elements.

For sailboats, it is also necessary to check running rigging and sail shape to determine if it is tuned properly or the sail has been blow out.

The sea trial should be done in sea conditions in which the vessel will normally operated. For sailboats, this means there should be a moderate amount of wind.
