WHY BUY A BOAT WHEN YOU CAN SAIL A FLEET?

Becoming a member of Shelter Island Sailing, a full service sailing club, is a smart, economical alternative to the high costs and hassles of boat ownership.  A boat owner must contend with huge out-of-pocket expenses (mortgage payments, insurance, slip fees, dive service, etc.) and invest a great deal of time for cleaning and maintenance whether they sail the boat or not.  Club members only pay for their boat when they're on-board, having fun.  They enjoy low cost sailing without the headaches.  Club dues for one year cost less than slip fees for one month!

If you already know how to sail, you can become a member for a one-time Club Initiation Fee of $300 and dues of $20 per month.  If you need to take lessons, our Combination Basic Keelboat/Coastal Cruising Class is $580 and includes materials and Free Club Membership (the $300 one-time initiation fee is waived).

In addition to  sailing a variety of well equipped and maintained yachts  whenever they wish, Club Members participate in Free Day-Sails, Clinics, Classes, BBQs, Social Activities and enjoy low Member Charter Fees, Free Early Boarding Privileges and Member Rate Specials.  We have reciprocal Sailing Club privileges at locations nationwide.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

FLEET CHARTER RATES:  Our published prices are complete, "out the door" prices.  We don't charge for boat check-outs. To make their prices look good, some charter companies publish base boat rates and then add on the costs of applicable taxes, fuel, surcharges, sail-tests and boat check-outs.

FLEET CONDITION:  It's better to be a member of a club with a smaller fleet of impeccably maintained boats, than a large fleet with poorly maintained boats.

PAY-AS-YOU-GO, NEVER PRE-PAY FOR CHARTER TIME:  With "timeshare" style clubs and clubs that collect money applicable to future charters, you are pre-paying for charter time that you may not be able to use.  Unfortunately, if you don't use it, you lose it.

TAKE SAILING LESSONS WHERE CLUB MEMBERSHIP IS INCLUDED:  There are a number of "one boat" outfits that can teach you to sail, but when you want to go sailing, where will you charter your boat?
